45 One Minute Games for Kitty Parties, Kids, Adults and Office Teams

One Minute Games

One minute games are quick party challenges where each player gets 60 seconds to finish one small task, usually with things already lying around the house: paper cups, balloons, biscuits, coins, a roll of tape. Someone starts a timer, everyone crowds around, and for that one minute the room gets louder than it has been all evening.

That is why they work so well at kitty parties, birthdays and office Fridays. Nobody needs to learn complicated rules, shy guests can cheer from the side, and a round is over before anyone gets bored.

Below are 45 one minute games sorted by group, each with the props you need and how to pick a winner. We have removed the repeats you find on most lists, so every game here is different.

One Minute Games

What are one minute games?

One minute games are timed challenges where a player, pair or team tries to complete a task in 60 seconds. The task is simple (stack cups, move chana with a toothpick, pop balloons) but the clock makes it chaotic, which is exactly the point.

The format took off with the TV show Minute to Win It in 2010, and families and offices have been borrowing it ever since. In India, kitty party groups have made it their own, adding bangles, bindis and kitchen masalas to the mix.

Why are one-minute games for kids popular

How to play one minute games: rules, scoring and props

Keep the rules to three: one clear goal, one timer everyone can hear, and one way to win. Announce the goal before you say “go”, because explaining mid-round eats half the minute.

For scoring, pick one method per game. You can count items (most cups stacked), use time (first to finish), or use elimination (last person still going). Give 3 points for first place, 2 for second and 1 for third, and add up the scores at the end of the party.

A basic kit covers most games on this list: 40 plastic cups, a pack of balloons, a few ping pong balls, straws, cream biscuits, ₹1 coins, sticky notes, a roll of toilet paper and a phone for the timer.

One minute games for kitty party (ladies special)

Kitty party one minute games need two things: props you can find in any Indian kitchen or dressing table, and a result everyone can see at once. These ten tick both boxes.

1. Bangle Toss

One minute games

You need: 10 glass or plastic bangles and an empty 1-litre bottle.

Stand behind a line about 1.5 metres away and toss the bangles one at a time so they ring the bottle neck. Most bangles on the bottle after 60 seconds wins. Plastic bangles bounce off more, which makes it harder and a lot funnier.

2. Dupatta Pleat Race

One minute games

You need: one dupatta or saree per player and a safety pin.

Players make neat pleats and pin them before time runs out. The host judges the neatest set of at least seven pleats. Fair warning: the lady who insists she is “too slow for this” usually wins.

3. Bindi Line-Up

One minute games

You need: a packet of bindis per player and an A4 sheet with a straight line drawn across it.

Using only the hand they don’t write with, players stick bindis along the line, edge to edge. The longest straight row after a minute takes it.

4. Chana Stab

You need: a bowl of boiled kabuli chana, one toothpick and an empty plate.

Spear one chana at a time and move it to the plate. Count at the end. It sounds easy until the chana starts splitting on the toothpick.

5. Garlic Peel Race

You need: 10 unpeeled garlic cloves per player and a small plate.

Peel as many cloves as you can with fingers only, no knife. It is loud, it is competitive, and the host gets a bowl of peeled garlic for tomorrow’s dal.

6. Spice Sniff

You need: 8 small katoris of masalas (jeera, ajwain, saunf, hing, haldi, dhaniya powder, garam masala, kasuri methi) and a blindfold.

The blindfolded player sniffs each katori and names the masala. Most correct answers in 60 seconds wins. It is a calm game, so it works well between two noisy rounds.

7. Ribbon Roll-Up

You need: two pencils, each tied to a 2-metre ribbon.

Two players hold a pencil each and wind their ribbon around it by twisting the pencil, without touching the ribbon. First to reach the end wins. Run it as a knockout for a full group.

8. Tissue Pull

You need: a full box of tissues per player.

Pull the tissues out one at a time, using one hand only. The first person to empty the box wins. Keep the tissues for the food table afterwards.

9. Coin Flick

You need: a steel glass, a playing card and a ₹1 coin.

Place the card on the glass and the coin on the card. Flick the card away so the coin drops straight into the glass, then reset and go again. Most successful drops in a minute wins.

10. Blow the Cups

You need: a balloon and five plastic cups lined up on a table.

Blow up the balloon, then release the air toward the cups to push them off the table. Clear all five before the timer beeps. Blowing up the balloon counts inside the minute, which is where most players lose.

11. Cup Pyramid

You need: 10 plastic cups per child.

Stack the cups into a 4-3-2-1 pyramid, then bring it back down into a single stack. Fastest full build and unstack wins. For younger kids, just building the pyramid is enough.

12. Cookie Face

You need: one cream biscuit per player.

Place the biscuit on the forehead and move it down to the mouth using only face muscles. No hands, no leaning on the wall. Every child gets to eat the biscuit, win or lose.

13. Ping Pong Bounce

You need: 6 plastic cups and 5 ping pong balls.

Line up the cups on a table. Each ball must bounce once on the table before landing in a cup. Move the line back for older kids.

14. Lemon Spoon Walk

You need: a steel spoon and a lemon (or a small potato).

Hold the spoon in your mouth with the lemon on it and walk to a marker and back. Most trips in 60 seconds wins. Drop the lemon and you restart from the starting line.

Kids race to pop the balloons by sitting on them. Clear sharp objects away first. An adult should blow up the balloons and pick up the broken pieces straight away.

16. Straw Pom-Pom Transfer

You need: a straw, a bowl of pom-poms (or small paper balls) and an empty bowl.

Suck through the straw to lift a pom-pom and drop it into the empty bowl. No hands allowed. Count the pom-poms at the end.

17. Puzzle Race

You need: a 20 to 30 piece puzzle per child.

See how much of the puzzle each child can finish in a minute. It is one of the quieter options here, handy when the room needs to settle down before cake.

18. Marshmallow Tower

You need: a bag of mini marshmallows and toothpicks.

Build the tallest tower you can in 60 seconds. The tower has to stand on its own for five seconds after the timer ends. Swap marshmallows for play dough balls with toddlers.

19. Blindfold Cotton Scoop

You need: a blindfold, a spoon, a bowl of cotton balls and an empty bowl.

The blindfolded player scoops cotton balls from one bowl into the other. A teammate can give directions if you want to make it a team game.

20. Cup Knockdown

You need: 10 plastic cups and a soft ball or a rolled-up sock.

Stack the cups into a pyramid and roll the ball to knock them over. Reset and keep going. Most cups knocked down in a minute wins. It is basically mini bowling, and kids never want to stop.

One minute games for adults

21. Junk in the Trunk

You need: an empty tissue box, 6 ping pong balls and a belt or dupatta.

Tie the box to the player’s back, balls inside. They shake, jump and wiggle until every ball falls out. No hands. This is the game people film on their phones.

22. Stack Attack

You need: 36 plastic cups.

Stack all 36 into an 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 pyramid, then collapse it back into one stack. Finish inside the minute and you are the champion. Shaky hands are guaranteed.

23. Defy Gravity

You need: 2 or 3 balloons.

Keep two balloons in the air for a full minute using only taps. If one touches the floor, you are out. Add a third balloon for anyone who finds two too easy.

24. Coin Tower

You need: 25 ₹1 coins per player.

Stack the coins into a single tower with one hand. The tallest tower still standing at the buzzer wins.

25. Speed Pictionary

You need: a whiteboard or paper and a bowl of word chits.

One player draws, the team guesses. Count how many words they get right in 60 seconds. Use Bollywood movie names to make it harder and funnier.

26. Flip the Cup

Flick each cup from underneath so it flips and lands the right way up. Most cups landed in a minute wins.

28. Speed Sort

You need: a mixed bowl of Gems, buttons or coloured paper clips and a few small bowls.

Sort everything by colour as fast as you can. Most sorted pieces in a minute wins. It is strangely satisfying to watch.

Stick as many notes on your face as you can with one hand. Each note must stay on after the timer stops. Take a group photo before anyone pulls them off.

30. Thread It

Make the longest chain you can in a minute. The chain must hold together when you lift it up.

One Minute Games

Let’s face it: our calendars and attention spans are shrinking.  More than that.  One minute games are totally useful in this circumstance.  They’re fun, speedy, and ridiculously addictive.  These pursuits bring instant zing without the commitment, whether you’re at a party, planning a lesson, or just hosting with friends.

One Minute Games - Puzzle Race

How to create your own one minute game

Making up a new game is easier than it looks. Pick one everyday object, add one restriction (one hand only, no hands, blindfolded, using a straw) and set a measurable goal (most items, first to finish, longest time).

Then test it once yourself. If you finish in 20 seconds, make it harder. If you can’t finish half of it in a minute, make it easier. A good one is just hard enough that about half the players succeed.

One Minute Games

Hosting tips that make a big difference

Use a timer everyone can see or hear. A phone on a speaker with a loud buzzer works well and settles arguments about “two more seconds”.

Line up the props for the next game before you start the current one. The gap between rounds is when a party loses energy.

Mix loud games with quiet ones. Follow Junk in the Trunk with Spice Sniff or Puzzle Race so people can catch their breath.

Keep prizes small and silly. A “Cup Stack Queen” badge or a box of laddoos gets more cheers than an expensive gift.

With young children, be careful with balloons, coins and small sweets. The [American Academy of Pediatrics notes that balloons are a choking risk for children up to 8 years old], so an adult should handle them and clear away broken pieces at once.
